Hi there! Isn’t it true that a woman’s hair is her crowning glory? It is for me and it definitely has the ability to make or unmake my day. That said, I always want to make sure I use only the products that would nourish my hair and keep it healthy, shiny, and manageable. The thing is, no matter how much effort I put into ensuring that, I still end up with the wrong product at times and find myself having bad hair days.
I would assume you’ve experienced the same. So when I heard about Wen and all the rave reviews on the product, I decided to make my own research in order to separate truth from marketing scheme, share what real users have to say about the product from various websites, and to help you determine whether or not you can finally say goodbye to bad hair days with this product. (Updated for 2013)
What is Wen?
Los Angeles’ leading hair and makeup stylist Chaz Dean whose celebrity clientele includes Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Drew Barrymore, Alicia Keys, Christina Applegate and countless others has made an innovative approach to hair care when he created and introduced a new system and the first ever in the industry to exclude ordinary shampoo. Top media magazines including Celebrity Living, In Style, Lucky, Elle, and People Magazine are all praises for this haircare line. Wen’s all-natural cleansing conditioner is a 5-in-1 formula that is designed to take the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in conditioner. Apparently it cleanses, hydrates, nourishes, and protects the color of your hair with just one product.
How Does It Work?
It seems that unlike ordinary shampoo which contains sodium laurel sulfate or other detrimental detergents that can cause dryness, dullness, frizziness, and color fade, Wen’s healthy haircare system uses natural ingredients that gently cleanse and moisturize your hair and scalp without any stripping agent. Based on their website and infomercials, it makes color last much longer, promotes healthy hair growth, and strengthens hair. Another factor that makes Wen different from shampoo is that it doesn’t lather. They say it creates smooth foam instead when mixed with water and even after just one use you can get a shinier, healthier-looking, and more manageable hair. Apparently, you can also use the same cleansing conditioner as a leave-in conditioner. Due to the absence of harsh agents, this all-natural cleanser can be used on a daily basis for all hair types.
To wash your hair with Wen, they say you first have to rinse your hair thoroughly for a minute or two, and rub an amount of cleansing conditioner into your hands before working it into your hair from the crown towards the ends. To distribute the formula evenly, apply a splash of water and massage vigorously. As said earlier, it’s not going to lather but it’s supposed to feel thick and creamy. Comb the product through your hair using a wide tooth comb then leave it in for at least three to five minutes before rinsing it completely.
Properties & Benefits
While Wen offers a variety of scents, they basically have the same properties. I have here the key ingredients of its popular cleansing conditioner, a favorite of many users based on reviews on the web – the Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner. Contents include glycerine which has natural moisturizing properties; chamomile extract as a soothing and calming property; rosemary extract which conditions and strengthens hair; cherrybark, the content responsible for bringing out color, shine, and softness in both natural and color-treated hair; panthenol for restoring resilience, moisturizing effect, and added volume; and sweet almond oil that softens, soothes, and moisturizes the hair.
